SRA has recently concluded our River Restoration 2021 project, a carry-over from 2020 which was delayed due to complications that were COVID-related. For this year SRA once again returned to the Little Sackville River in Lower Sackville as it is one of our most important feeder brooks to the main Sackville River and has been one of our highest priority project areas in the watershed due to its’ “sweet water” (closer to neutral pH than the rest of the watershed, which tends to be more acidic) and its importance for its rearing habitat. SRA hired 4 youth this past summer and installed 18 habitat restoration structures (diggerlogs and rock deflectors) to create and enhance fish habitat (most importantly pools) in the Little Sackville River in behind the Les Mayo Ballfield in Lower Sackville.
